PD AND PARKINSONISM CAREGIVER SYMPOSIUM
July 14, 2012 - All Day
Crowne Plaza Foster City
The Stanford APDA Parkinson's Information & Referral Center is pleased to present an all-day Parkinson's Disease and parkinsonism caregiver/care partner symposium, to be held at the Crowne Plaza Foster City.
Great Speaker Line-Up! Keynote speakers include an expert on resilience at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston and two Bay Area movement disorder specialists, Dr. Matt Arnold and Dr. Melanie Brandabur.
Breakout sessions include lessons learned from current and former caregivers -- spouses, adult children, and those dealing with dementia.
Other breakout sessions are on topics including positive family communication, care options, coping with dementia, legal issues in elder care, etc. Presenters come from Family Caregiver Alliance, Seniors At Home, San Franc isco VA, The Parkinson's Institute, Sutter East Bay, etc.
Who is Invited? This symposium is for family or friends who care for someone with Parkinson's Disease, Lewy Body Dementia, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Multiple System Atrophy, Corticobasal Syndrome, and related diagnoses such as Parkinson's Plus or atypical parkinsonism. This includes those who partner in caring, give hands-on care, manage someone's care, are concerned about a friend or family member, or provide support. Both current and veteran caregivers are welcome.
If we have space available, we will invite professional caregivers to attend. Professional caregivers should check back in late June regarding availability.
This event is NOT open to anyone WITH one of those diagnoses. The exception is if someone with one of those diagnoses is/was also a caregiver to a person with one of those diagnoses.
